We are a dedicated team of expat tax professionals, technologists and process geeks that spend everyday working on making it easier to file your taxes as a US citizen living and working overseas.
The vast majority of US expats have a relatively simple tax return but often pay inflated "flat fees" for tax preparation to cover the time and cost required to prepare returns for expats with more complicated situations. We make it fairer for the majority of US expats that have relatively simple tax obligations by not offering our service to those more complicated clients.

Meet The Team
Co-founders Sam Cassidy and Mel Mackenzie first met back in 2005, while working in the US tax compliance team at PwC London. Both had arrived in London from PwC overseas US practices - Mel from Sydney, and Sam from Tokyo. While in London, Sam and Mel worked on US tax returns just like yours, for thousands of US expats. Between them they have over 40 years of US individual expat income tax experience!
In recent years Mel and Sam left PwC to set up their own successful US expat tax practices in the United States and Europe and always stayed in touch. Their own practices are geared towards looking after US expats with highly complex situations - individuals with multi jurisdiction movements – stock options – social security issues – offshore trusts – passive foreign investment companies – controlled foreign corporations and so on. Mel and Sam have had to turn away thousands of expats over the years because their return was too straightforward, and they could not justify charging their standard fee.
So in 2018, after having yet another US expat with a regular tax situation discouraged by their fee quote, Sam, Mel and James Foster - USTaxGlobal's third co-founder - got talking.
Why not help those expats who have more straightforward situations?
Why not offer them their expertise and prepare their filings for less cost, all the while using good quality accurate tax software, and giving them the best service for their situation?
USTaxGlobal was born.
Sam and Mel looked at the different types of US expats coming through their doors and figured the ones who suffer the most on pricing are the ones who work overseas and earn a good wage but don’t have any of the complex investments or offshore issues that their regular clients have, but want to do the right thing when it comes to filing their US taxes. For example:
*Those who have an FBAR filing requirement to report one or two accounts – but don’t want to have to pay $100 + to have to have someone else prepare it if it could be done themselves with the right guidance.*
*Leaving or arriving back in the US during the year and understanding whether a full year or part year resident State filing is required*
*Earning foreign employment income but unsure whether to claim a foreign tax credit or the foreign earned income exclusion?*
*Using correctly foreign exchange rates as prescribed by the IRS and Treasury to exchange from functional currencies to US dollars*
Their findings showed that the starting price for US services offered by other expat tax preparation companies factors in the more complex, time consuming work they have to perform for unusual tax situations.
